Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties (BBBS) is happy to announce the addition of their new Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program Manager, Christian Miguel-Caraballo. With over nine years of professional experience in mental health services, Miguel-Caraballo brings expertise and dedication to a program where student mentors and mentees both benefit greatly.
As Program Manager, Miguel-Caraballo will oversee the Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program, which matches middle and high school students with elementary and middle school students. The program involves a powerful educational methodology called “Service Learning.” When a student becomes involved as a mentor, both the mentee and the mentor benefit academically, socially, and emotionally. Peer-to-Peer Mentoring builds the mentor’s self-worth and ability to make a difference in the life of a child.
“Christian is someone we knew quickly would be a perfect fit on our team,” said BBBS President and CEO Donna Bennett. “His work experience speaks for itself, but his sense of care for what he does and the people he impacts shows that he will make a big impact on the lives of the students he helps through this program.”
Miguel-Caraballo’s experience includes work in mental health services, case management, youth programming, and Spanish translation. He graduated from Wilmington University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and previously worked as an Integrated Case Manager and On-Site Direct Care Supervisor. He has also taught English as a Second Language and provided support for Spanish-speaking families in a number of capacities.
“Community has always been central to my life, whether among family, friends, or people I don’t know yet,” Miguel-Caraballo shared. “This position helps me provide local youth in our community with strengthened confidence and interpersonal skills.”
Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Miguel-Caraballo is an avid beachgoer and a fan of the Harry Potter books and films. He also enjoys reading, creating DIY projects, traveling to new countries, and spending quality time with family and friends.
