VINELAND, NJ: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties (BBBS) announced their 2019 Bigs of the Year, Cesar Morales and Kelly Winters, for their extraordinary commitment to their Little Brother and Little Sister at their Annual Big Night Fundraiser, which was held on May 10, 2019.
“During 2018 our Bigs contributed countless hours of volunteer service to our Littles. You can’t put a price tag on that kind of contribution as it is essential to everything we do,” said Donna Bennett, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties. “On behalf of our Board, staff, donors, and most of the children who benefit from your work, I want to thank Cesar, Kelly, and every one of our volunteers for all that they do.”
Big Brother of the Year Cesar Morales was matched to Little Brother Jose in September of 2016. Jose was originally referred to BBBS by his school counselor. Since being matched with Cesar, Jose’s life began to improve almost at the onset. Jose’s mother says that he has gained confidence and is doing very well.
Cesar has not only made a commitment to Jose, but he has demonstrated his commitment to the BBBS mission and goals by always being a willing participant in agency activities and events. He is a multi-year donor and has been a speaker at several events. Cesar has made a lasting impact on his Little Brother and everyone at BBBS through his determination, drive, and passion to make a difference.
“It has been my pleasure to be able to spend time with Jose,” Morales said. “He is an outstanding young man with so much potential. It is wonderful to see new opportunities become possible for him. My life is richer thanks to knowing Jose.”
Big Sister of the Year Kelly Winters was matched to Little Sister Kaylee in June of 2016. Kelly and Kaylee have a very special relationship. Since being matched they have such a great time together and have attended many Big Brothers Big Sisters events and activities. Kaylee is gaining confidence to try new things, and she is realizing her potential.
Kelly is not only a fantastic Big Sister; she consistently helps the agency in other ways. She has proven her dedication to the mission and vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters as a mentor since 2005, and through her work on numerous committees, fundraising efforts, and as a multi-year donor.
“I am unbelievably honored to be receiving an award from an organization that I hold so dear to my heart,” Winters said. “Too many children throughout our area are still in need of mentors who can help them achieve their aspirations and dreams. I am so proud of Kaylee, and thankful for the opportunity to watch her learn and help her grow into a beautiful young woman.”
