TD Charitable Foundation Makes $5,000 Donation
January, 2012 – Vineland, New Jersey – The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, recently donated a total of $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties as part of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children ages 6 through 18 with mentors in professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Matches come together through our two essential programs: Community-based Mentoring and School Based Mentoring. In a Community based match an adult and child meet once a week in their community to share fun activities, and a little bit of themselves. In school-based mentoring Bigs and Littles meet once a week in schools, libraries and community centers, to talk and have fun. The Bigs in the school-based program may be adults or high school students. The funds from the TD Charitable Foundation will be used to support the adult school-based mentoring program.
School-based mentoring is not a tutoring program. However, research shows that of all children matched with a Big in school:
- 58% improved their school performance
- 65% showed higher levels of self-confidence
- 55% had a better attitude toward school
